Safe Cleaning Guide for Granite and Quartz Benchtops

Granite, marble, and engineered quartz are premium countertop selections that add value and luxury to any kitchen. However, these materials require specific care. Using the wrong cleaning spray can damage the sealant, etch the natural stone, or dull the glossy finish. Follow our safe countertop cleaning guide to protect your kitchen surfaces.

Never Use Vinegar, Lemon, or Bleach

Acidic substances like vinegar, lemon juice, and citric acid break down the protective sealer on granite and marble. This exposes the porous stone underneath, making it vulnerable to stains. Bleach can cause permanent discolouration on engineered quartz surfaces under warm light.

The Daily Cleaning Recipe

For safe, effective daily cleaning, mix a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the benchtop, wipe with a soft microfiber cloth, and dry immediately with a clean towel to prevent water spots.

Protect from Heat and Scratches

Always use trivets or heat pads under hot pots and pans. While quartz is scratch-resistant, cutting food directly on the stone can wear down the finish. Always use a cutting board during food preparation.
